NetBorder Software Suite
Paraxip
NetBorder Software Suite is a VoIP Session and Media
Controller, a new class of product that combines the
features of Media Servers, Media Gateways and Session
Controllers, combined with powerful scripting engines to
facilitate the deployment of SIP-based applications in the
enterprise behind an ever changing and complex network
environment.
Business
Challenges
Enterprise and
Contact Center communications are rapidly embracing the
power of VoIP. PBX, ACD, IVRs, Outbound Dialling, Recording
are all moving rapidly towards the IP infrastructure. The
benefits are multiple: SIP as a standard protocol for
communications providing vendor-independent architecture, a
single network to manage both voice and data traffic,
enhanced application capabilities including presence and
video processing and lower cost of ownership. However, the
implementation of SIP applications
in the
enterprise still requires the capability to interconnect and
reach a plethora of network
types
and end-points that support multiple physical interfaces,
network topologies, media types, protocol variations and
security policies. With such a varied landscape, the
deployment of SIP applications becomes extremely complex.
What emerges is the need for a solution that shields SIP
applications from these complexities and intricacies.
Solution
Paraxip
NetBorder Software Suite is a VoIP Session and Media
Controller, a new class of product for VoIP deployments in
the enterprise. NetBorder is comprised of four major
software subsystems: Session Controller Media Proxy Media
Services Network Connectivity Each software subsystem has
its own scripting and OAM components, for increased
flexibility and manageability. In NetBorder, these software
subsystems combine to provide the necessary network
connectivity, signalling proxy, signalling harmonization,
media processing, media conversion and call control
scripting to remove the complexity from SIP applications.
Product
Overview
NetBorder
Software Suite comprises of four main software subsystems,
each complemented with its Scripting and OAM components, as
shown in the diagram below.
Session
Controller
The session
controller is the heart of the NetBorder architecture. This
subsystem manages sessions passing through the NetBorder
suite. Functions such as routing, call control admission,
topology hiding and protocol adaptation are performed within
this component. The session controller is the only mandatory
component of the architecture as it is required to implement
the other services of the platform.

Media Proxy
The media
proxy is the companion component to the Session
Controller. As in typical SIP Session Border Control
applications, NetBorder can handle either the call control
only or both call control and media proxy services. The
media proxy delivers capabilities such as transcoding, media
splitting and media harmonization (adapting the media
formats on each side of the session so that the calls can go
through). The media proxy is an optional component of the
platform.
Network
Connectivity
With every
installation of NetBorder comes SIP connectivity services to
provide comprehensive interoperability with IP telephony
networks, platforms and devices. The optional TDM module
provides connectivity to legacy telephony systems and
networks through CAS, PRI, T1 and E1 protocols and variants.
The TDM plug-in module is compatible with the Sangoma AFT
Series product line allowing a cost effective physical
interface to the telephony network in compact form factors.
Media
Services
Advanced
media services are provided through specialized components.
One key component is the NetBorder Call Analyzer, which
implements unique pattern-recognition algorithms to provide
superior accuracy in distinguishing live responses from
voice mail systems or other devices and signals. The
technology significantly increases agent productivity,
reduces connection time to callers and streamlines the
outbound calling deployment process. Other media services
include a call recorder and a prompt player.
Scripting
The
NetBorder scripting engine, based on the web-friendly Python
scripting language, allows administrators of the platform to
customize the different services or implement new
combinations of services, without any requirement for
changes from Paraxip. Whether this is used to solve complex
SIP interoperability issues in the field, or to change the
behavior of the call recorder, call analyzer or other
advanced capabilities, changes to the application scripts
are performed without any need of recompilation.
OAM
NetBorder
comes with OAM tools and utilities including installation
packages, web reporting as well as comprehensive logging and
troubleshooting tools.
